Remember Norman Rockwell’s “Four Freedoms”? The spirit of these paintings resides in the Democratic Party. | The GOP has made strong efforts to corner the market on “freedom,” despite standing for tyranny and mindless conformity in many respects. Let’s remind them of the freedoms Democrats hold dear:; Freedom of marriage; Freedom from medical bankruptcy; Freedom from unnecessary disease and death; Freedom from extreme deprivation; Freedom to pursue academic excellence regardless of ability to pay; Freedom of sex and sexuality; Freedom to smoke marijuana medically and recreationally; Freedom from the death penalty and from excessively harsh penalties for petty crimes; Freedom from racism, sexism, xenophobia, and other bigotries; Freedom to worship the God of your spirit’s choosing; Freedom to speak on political subjects without being viciously harassed, bullied, and stalked for one’s opinion; Freedom to vote and to choose our leaders transparently and democratically. | image tagged in norman rockwell four freedoms, democrat, democratic party, freedom, religious freedom, freedom of speech | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

98% of those are identical goals that your average Republican wants for America as well.

If we're being honest though; I'd argue neither party is doing a very good job of pursuing those ideals.

Freedom — if you’re an American, it runs in your veins. | image tagged in hamilton raise a glass to freedom | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I was upset at Republicans when I made this because, again, I feel they’ve cornered the market on freedom, and worth noting I’m also frustrated with Democrats for too often allowing themselves to be painted as the Party of restrictions and the nanny state.

However, when you strip away the fog of propaganda, I hope that more Americans come to understand that freedom is our shared heritage regardless of which Party we support.

Yup. 100%. Also cornering the market on patriotism. They think simply wearing a flag makes you a patriot. Patriotism is not the same thing as school pride.

I think the Democrats shoot themselves in the foot because they largely overreact to things and attempt to hammer it out. E.G: Guns used in mass shootings? Democrats tend to try going after guns, which naturally makes all gun owners feel attacked and in turn more sympathetic to whomever opposes the Democrats. (Simplified example, but you get my drift).

My current and raging-hot point of contention with Democrats is the ongoing debate over the Hyde Amendment in Congress...this hasn't been an issue for decades and it shouldn't be one now. By advancing a budget bill that fails to include it, I cannot see any explanation except that the Democrats want everyone to fund all abortions regardless of religious/moral beliefs. I can swallow just about any pill I'm told. I straight up won't pay taxes if this budget is passed (which I don't believe it will, but you must understand how concerning it is to me that this is even a discussion).

It's crap like this that makes Democrat talk about being a party of true freedom seem shallow in the eyes of many.
