The Democrats are currently led by Joe Biden. But most of us would be fine with Kamala Harris. Or Elizabeth Warren. Or Jay Inslee. Or any other leading Democrat. On the Republican side, it seems like it’s Trump-or-bust. The Capitol Hill rioters famously chanted “Hang Mike Pence,” and his political future is considered nonexistent. Other prospective 2024 candidates are judged principally on their “loyalty” to Trump. Why is that?
