Caveat: Is there anything inherently wrong with reposting?
No, not really! Memes are meant to be shared and re-shared and appreciated, after all.
And serving as Imgflip’s self-appointed repost police is kind of a drag if it’s the only thing you’re doing to enjoy yourself on the site.
As long as they’re posted in streams that allow them, and/or marked as such somewhere in the title or meme tags, there ain’t nothing wrong with reposts.
Perhaps then rather than flatly concluding whether content is a repost, we can see whether the post contains repost-like characteristics.
If all someobody did was add a transparent scumbag hat on someone else’s meme, it might not technically be a “repost,” but it isn’t hugely creative, either.
But if you remixed an old joke by reformatting the text, overlaying it on top of a new image, adding a reaction meme, deep-frying, etc. etc. — that’s creativity!
