That's actually no joke - a lot of HOAs in liberal enclaves do not allow clothes lines because they look too ghetto, even though it's the greenest way to dry your clothes.
Back when my wife and I were newlyweds I was stationed in the desert paradise of 29 Palms. We didn't have two nickels to rub together, so on wash day we'd go to the laundromat and wash the clothes then take them home and hang them outside. In the desert the clothes that you hung up first would be dry by the time that you hung up the last item. Magic!
