I experience the same thing but with older siblings.

It doesn't really trigger me, but bothers me and reminds me I'll never have a normal family

My "father" and mother are divorced because my "father" was trans later on and is now my other mom

so yeah idk, it's sorta bothersome but I can't really complain because I guess it's my problem not theirs, I dunno

Well yea, if someone is talking about how great and fun their dad is its kinda a trigger bc it kinda reminds me I might never have that

But why should they feel bad or stop talking about their happy family? Like my father left but I don't feel the need to be upset When people talk about their "fun dads" and happy families.

This isn't to be rude I honestly want to know.(My father ran away because he got my mom pregnant so I understand the pain)

Why would that trigger anyone?

For me its bc
1. I never know what mood my dad is going to be in. He will usually be either nice enough till I make one little mistake, or just sour.
2. He’s not always exactly supportive. When I came out to him as lesbian he used the “its just a phase” thing.
3. Going back to 2, I never feel like I can talk to him. My mom had to litteraly force me to come out to him.
4. He never gets involved in things that r important to me. He never comes to my soccer games or piano recitals, he doesn't even TRY to understand my interests.
5. He’s a really bad perfectionist. If I’m not perfect, he blows up. Its not rlly child abuse bc he’s never hit me, but theres some pretty bad self esteem issues.

Yes I know not all fathers are like that. I’m just saying mine is and thats why the discussion of fathers triggers me.
