Today George Floyd’s brother, and the nation, can breathe.

I wouldn't go THAT far.

I know this verdict is atypical. I’m not suggesting it heralds a new era of anything.

But we have to savor victories, to remind ourselves change is possible.

I don't disagree with that. I just think that us feeling we can breathe because of this verdict is white privilege. I don't think the whole nation can.

Uh...The killer was sentenced to more than two decades behind bars and the family received quite a large financial remuneration. Obviously that's not equal to having Mr. Floyd back, but it's still a very substantial offering.

I'd say we've done our due diligence and served justice about as well as could be expected.

In my opinion Chauvin should've gotten the death penalty.

Why am I somehow unsurprised...

I have a problem with killing people to show other people that killing people is wrong.

I don't believe killing people is always wrong.

I'm not big on making people suffer in prison. Reform them or end them.

And I tend to think the latter option should be reserved for people in positions of power. Which is pretty much the exact opposite of how "civilization" operates--the more power you have, the less consequences you face for using it to harm others.
