If you make a rule, you should abide to it if it applies to you, and if the rule benefits the majority in most circumstances. For example, if a teacher says no talking during class, that doesn’t make the teacher a hypocrite if they talk during the lesson. They’re just trying to teach the lesson without being stopped. But if you make a rule like “no eating in this room” and the next day you’re devouring a cheesesteak in there, that’s just hypocritical.
