What is “black-on-black crime,” anyway?

In reality, it’s just the black version of white-on-white crime.

In racist-land, it’s a trump card they play to let themselves off the hook for having to care about black people at all. How it works: “See, black people don’t even care about themselves. Why should I?”

Well, from this chart we could make a similar argument that white people don’t care about other white people. Why doesn’t anyone make that argument? Because it doesn’t fit with racists’ preconceived notions about white people being superior.

The trope combines bigotry with a desire to forget about our obligations to other people. It’s absolutely foundational to the Republican rank-and-file mindset.

Dismantling this stereotype is absolutely critical in getting them to feel, really feel, that Black Lives Matter.

They're pretty much saying that since black people kill each other, police brutality doesn't exist. I've stopped trying to understand their "logic."

Lots of us white people are bootlickers. We don't complain when an innocent white guy is killed, we make excuses for the cops and blame the victim.

Who decides the race of the offenders in that chart? In the census race is self reported. Do the two always match? How often are they different?
