No, it will be a lot harder to notice new posts. The reason I requested otherwise is because it would be easier to be able to notice suggestions and answer questions this way. Switching it back would just make suggestions as well as asking questions a lot harder since they wouldn’t be noticed as easily

Part of the reason we want "latest" as the default is so that it's not just a competition for whose image can get the most upvotes, because that's not what we want here. The imgflip stream is more about the discussion and long thoughtful ideas rather than just simple statements in images that people agree or disagree with.
