Another Thought: Is It an 'external' cigerette lighter ?

by golly i think thats a distinct possibility !

It would certainly work and I know this because many, many years ago, I drove my 1965 Mini down the Grossglockner Pass in Austria and I lit a cigarette off the the front brake drum - I'm still not sure how it stopped at the bottom !
