Racist Holiday!!!!

I mean... in the words of Anita Sarkeesian, "Everything is racist. Everything is sexist. Everything is homophobic. And you have to point it all out." I'm having a hard time digesting the celebration of African Americans' emancipation as racist. Does your argument involve ascribing peripheral ideas/motives to the holiday or is it about how you define 'racist'? I'm interested in hearing your argument.

It's racist because of the pandering those in charge are doing making it a Federal holiday.
Its not being done to "heal" any wounds, its being used by this administration to further their claims that "white supremacy" is rampant in this country, so they are using it because they think it is "thumbing their noses" at white folks.

They don't really care about "Juneteenth", they just want the support of the groups of black TERRORISTS that tried to burn this nation down last year. What better way than to take a date that is primarily known to black folks, and making it a Federal holiday??

It really goes back to how Democrats like Biden have operated for years. The whole LBJ thing on why he supported the Civil Rights Act.

"I'll have those n***ers voting Democratic for 200 years!!!".

Democrats have always been racist against blacks. This administration is no different.

Ahh... well, yes. Political strife between the parties has always been an issue but Democrats using my race as both a sword and shield against Republicans has always rubbed me (and most of my family) the wrong way... especially given historical context.

I don't support either side but it seems clear which side is the most insane at the moment. I hope we can pull out of this social justice nose dive before it's too late.

I really hope that we can save the nation; but America seems to be fighting an "ideology", rather than a traditional enemy, this time, and its being pushed by people in power, not because they genuinely care about the people they are using to gain support; but because they need their vote/support. Its not about "healing wounds", its about creating division that hasn't existed in our lifetimes. Its really disgusting what "we...the people" have allowed this country to become.

Anyways, I hope we can keep it together; but I fear we are heading for "Balkanization", and frankly, it's starting to look better and better the crazier this country gets.

America has been fighting ideology since its inception. The best way to do so is well known, by using logical argumentation... it used to be known as "statesmanship". We all need to build culture, reject division and (for the love of all that's good and holy) STOP listening to news media (aka think for ourselves).

I've enjoyed this conversation as well. I truly appreciate anyone who is willing to clarify/defend their point of view with reasoned argumentation rather than spit and vitriol. We need more of that right about now. Would that I could give you more than one upvote!
