OK, so I’m very, very mad at Taylor Swift. If you don’t know what rainbow washing/pink washing is, Its when you abuse LGBT symbols, flags, etc. to be perceived as progressive and tolerant to make money and/or distract from negative things you did. I just stumbled upon Taylor Swift’s “you need to calm down”, and it infuriated me. Not just because of the blatant attempt to get back in the spotlight, but because she has confirmed she is heterosexual and cisgender and therefore has never experienced what its like to be LGBT, yet in the song she uses phrasing that implies she is fighting homophobia as a LGBTQIA person. Not only that, throughout the videos she uses EXTREME LGBTQ stereotypes. The whole setting is a technicolor rainbow trailer park. Its like when someone makes a racist joke in class, and the minority its about thinks its funny, or even if they don’t, but then theres that one white girl who gets really offended and blows up. Swift is being the white girl. It’s just extreme misrepresentation, and the vid almost pushed me to the point of tears (I am a demigirl lesbian by the way)
