They could have stopped at the part where they asked do you want an award for spelling help. While everyone else is noticing the obvious I am curious how long they was there, did they find food or water while there, what was their long term plan? And that is to say nothing of knowing what is poisonous or venomous. Spelling help is good if you are going to have a plane circle conveniently above. A smoke signal would be useful at drawing attention from boats or planes further away. Those leaves will be gone when the tide comes in.
