QAnoners, white supremacists, hardcore libertarians, staunch evangelicals, “just plain” MAGA folks — all these somewhat different breeds of Rightist — they all kind of rub shoulders on social media. It’s not all that important to try to label them.
Whatever flavor they are, what matters to me is whether they’re actively trying to undermine democracy.
Her tweet there? Easily meets that definition. She’s calling for Trump to impose martial law and cancel democracy, end of story.
Embarrassing and perhaps surprising to you that Twitter allowed that to fly. But note the date it was Tweeted — Nov. 30, 2020, over a month before the Jan. 6 convulsion.
Every social media platform bears some responsibility for giving fuel to that fire. Not just Gab and Parler and 4Chan and others. Facebook and Twitter are also responsible. Twitter perhaps more than anyone, because they handed Trump the biggest megaphone of all.
But Jan. 6 at least woke “Big Tech” up to what the hell they created, and they took some corrective measures. Example: They banned Trump. That was big.
But have they cracked down enough on all of the crazy people who follow Trump?
