You’d think a man of faith would know the history of plagues and diseases enough to take it seriously.

Then again so many of them are in the religion of Trumpianity these days, where everything not said by the messiah is fake.

Maybe he was just misled by someone who spent months denying the seriousness of the illness. What POS would have done such a thing?

I'll laugh at stupid people's actions all day long, but consider personal attacks (as this seems to be) a much lower action not worthy of laughter.

so when rush limbaugh makes fun of aids deaths, that's ok, but when somebody makes fun of HIS death, that's insensitive? right wing snowflake alert.

Since you clearly don't know how to debate, I'll let your poor rhetorical attack slide, but if I never said Rush's attacks on AIDS deaths were OK, or never referenced him in such a context, how can you possibly have the gumption to assume I think such a thing?

Then why is it wrong to mock a mockers death?
[deleted]

Because you are making light of the death of another human being. When you die, do you want people to treat it like a joke in Charlie Hebdo's latest issue? No! People are funny. People dying is never funny.

Would be nice if conservatives would call out Rush Limbaugh for what he did mocking dying people.

Oh I'm not saying that there are no situations in which dark humor isn't funny...I'll 'lol' at plenty of macabre and downright offensive stuff...this though felt more like it was a personal attack rather than attacking the stupidity itself, which for me is a red line. I mock actions, not people.

if his pride got in the way of him apologizing, it's because he didn't really think he did anything wrong.

If that's how you choose to interpret his actions then I doubt I'll convince you otherwise, though I feel the article (that came from a page you linked) was pretty clear.

I'm tempted to again try explaining to you that nobody deserves to be mocked for dying, but given how readily you resort to vomiting up such acrimony I really don't see the point.

After all, given how hateful and ignorant so many of your comments are on this platform, I can see why a lot of people on the right would feel the same way about you were you an influential media member; assuming you adopted the same rhetorical tone, you can bet (should you befall an unfortunate end, or even a natural one) there'd be plenty of people going, "That idiot did nothing but rant and rage his whole life, he deserved to die, what a loser, burn in hell, etc etc etc"

The point I'm trying to illustrate here is that descending to the same level as your opponents renders you no better than them. As far as I'm concerned, you and Rush both use(d) inflammatory rhetoric and display(ed) a patent disregard for feelings on the other side, and therefore I see no reason to not consider you both equally flawed in terms of your ability to be decent people, at least as far as your public rhetorical image is concerned.

While I wasn't a regular Limbaugh listener and can't say I know of what incident you're speaking, link the clips/transcripts and I'll evaluate them with the same standards I've applied below.

He did everything except apologize which means he's not really sorry.
[deleted]

Ever heard the phrase, "Actions speak louder than words?"

Maybe he was too prideful to say the exact words, "I'm sorry.", but he did everything expected of someone who changes their position on something and more.

Neither you nor I know what went down in his head, so it's astonishingly presumptive to selectively create opinions based off a lack of words while also ignoring actions that we can see and observe.

Suspending the program, saying it was the worst thing he's done (or among them), and donating more money than you and I probably ever have is a pretty dang good apology, dude.

"The New York Times reported that Limbaugh eventually stopped the segment after a few weeks and said it was "very insensitive to people who were dying."

He called it one of the "most regretful things I've ever done."

There does not seem to be any audio recordings of this segment available online."

I copied that straight from the first website on Google's results. So, after reading it, was the segment wrong and abhorrent? Yes. Absolutely. Like I said, mocking death itself is about as low as you can get. The only thing I'd point out is that he clearly apologized for this and even donated ten grand to and AIDS foundation, so I'd forgive him for that. Forgiveness, FYI, doesn't mean I think it was right, but is more an acknowledgement that he realizes it was wrong and I believe he held himself accountable.

What about people who make fun of something that saves people's lives, thus encouraging others not to get it?

Here's the difference that you're failing to see; mocking the deputy's actions (mocking the vaccine in turn) is perfectly fine; I think it was quite silly of him to do so myself. But laughing at his death? Are we such an insensitive culture that the death of a fellow human being is now a laughing matter just because his views differed from our own?

It's disgusting, frankly. I disliked RBG, for example, and will absolutely lambaste her views and decisions as a Justice, but mocking her death is an insult to her human dignity and legacy of public service. It's no different with this deputy, and I frankly find the callousness of this comment section disgusting.

And how many died because governors like Cuomo failed to take COVID seriously either?

There were great successes and tragic failures on the COVID front at ALL levels (Federal, State, and local), not just any one.
