Normal describes any trait found in a majority of a given dataset. I.E it's 'normal' for Swedish people to speak Swedish, but that is distinctly an abnormal and rare language when compared to the entirety of Earth's linguistic diversity.
It's normal for Americans to wear gym clothes in public, but that's much less common in many other areas in the world.
In any given year, the number of drunk drivers in the U.S IS pretty high, but they are largely confined to one data set (young men who binge drink often)

That's not indicative of the U.S population at large, therefore it is not normal for the U.S as a whole. It's normal for that segment of U.S society.
