Anti-cringe at — Who else? — Jesus Christ. | image tagged in let he who is without sin cast the first stone | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I can’t speak for the demented crap in the Old Testament, most of which isn’t followed even by the most archconservative Christians today (marry your dead brother’s widow? No thanks!) —

But the teachings of Jesus Himself (the Alpha and Omega of what Christianity should be about, IMO) are radically anti-sexist, compassionate, and egalitarian.

This teaching in particular.

Women can be teachers, healers, preachers, soldiers — anything a man can be.

They can dazzle us with their beauty or their wisdom. Or both. Their history, sexual or otherwise, does not define who they are or what they can be.

They are made in God’s image too.

Exactly. There's wisdom to be derived from parts of the Old Testament to be sure, but it was a radically different time and not at all one which we should try to live today.

Hence why we Catholics, at least, pretty much took the Bible and said, "This is mostly great, so we'll take everything good from the Old Testament, tack that onto the New, and then codify that into Canon law, which is basically how Jesus wanted us to live. The rest [of the Old Testament] clearly contradicts his later teaching and therefore cannot be treated with the same level of respect.

The Prots can't handle it and I find that hilarious.

Missed this until I came back to look at the meme.

Deal with it, I guess? Not the most charitable response, but you're not giving me much with which to work.

Oh funny. I thought you'd read the conversation sloth and I had and figured you were referring to the more disturbing events in the Old Testament.

Catholics have exalted women long before other religions did.
