My true goal is to have upvote begging memes not clogging the fun stream so that more creative and original ideas can thrive. I have resorted to this for 3 reasons, to bring more attention to the cause, for the sheer irony of it, and lastly for the potential legendary status of being the guy who got rid of upvote begging in the fun stream. The points are a mere by-product.

The difference is that the desired results are polar opposite. The intention is to get people to stop posting upvote begs in the fun stream by changing the rules, not to get points.

I know, its just funny to me because its such a topical issue that any meme with the word 'upvote' either gets abuse or more upvotes. I'm guessing this is never going away, its just reality.

If there were a way to view the number downvotes and compare THAT to the number of upvotes, that would be the vote %. The 50,000 or so who didn’t vote at all do not count, they are just people who DGAF. Move along now.

When you have only 2 data points to consider, it's foolish to throw one of them away.

There is input through the downvote button for those who truly disagree but that data is not available, and it is the only data that would truly make it a vote. The 50k view vs upvotes only shows how many people care about the subject, it doesn’t show who truly disagrees. It is not a valid data point to be considered as a vote, and like I said before, it’s a petition anyway.

I understand what a petition is, and 800 up votes (signatures) is pathetic. You could put it into context by determining how many people are presented the petition for signature (50k) and comparing that to the number that actually signed it (1%) - but that's a depressing number, and it's not surprising that you don't want to look at it.

I would contend that people who care about the subject but do not up vote are probably NOT in agreement......

When you only have 2 data points to work with (and let's face it - you aren't ever going to get to see the down votes), then your only options are to:

1 - use the data you have available or
2 - ignore half of the data and have no clue what anything means.

A petition shows “I have X amount of people who care about this subject to make a change” period. It doesn’t show anything else. You are trying to make it something it is not.

Those aren’t the only options, but you don’t seem to understand what a petition is.

The view count isn’t how many people clicked on the meme it is how many times the meme has been clicked, it isn’t an accurate number
