Talk and argument and discussion is better than pretending we don't have an issue here.

The idea of systemic racism isn't that people are inherently racist due to the color of their skin: it's that we live in a society full of racist nonsense (from the idea that Black and Indigenous people only count as 3/5 of a person on to the subtle economic cruelties of redlining and everywhere in between). That climate and those racist ideas affect everyone in our society, not just white people.

(Whoah. Pause. Maybe all of us white people should take a breath and remember that the narrative of history is not about us.)

Everybody internalizes the racist ideas to some extent, but they BENEFIT white people. That's where we come in. Like everyone, we have to recognize and unlearn the systemic racist ideas, and acknowledge that we and our ancestors have benefitted from the system. It's okay. It won't hurt.

I guess that would depend on your race right? I mean as a black man I find it refreshing there is talk ensuing. Even angry defensive triggered talk is good talk.
