OK, to be clear, I believe that all living U.S. Citizens over the age of 18 have the right to vote. Just as we all have the right to bear arms, express our first amendment rights, etc., perhaps not everyone SHOULD exercise their right to vote.

Automatic registration? OK, like when you renew your driver's license, whatever, OK. Automatic mass mailing of ballots as happened in 2020? Out of the question.

My point, if people aren't involved enough to take a little time and effort to vote then perhaps they shouldn't. It shows a blatant disregard for the candidates, the issues, and the process. Example, in the 2000 election I was really turned off by both Bush & Gore so I didn't vote for either one. See how that works? Yes, I was glad it was Bush that won, especially after 9/11 and I voted for him in 2004, but the 2000 election didn't do anything for me.

It's called "motor voter" and it's been around for decades.

By the way - California uses this to circumvent the pesky citizenship requirement. They give drivers licenses to illegal aliens - allowing them to vote in our elections.

I was aware of the NVRA but I thought that, as the name implies, it was national. Surprising, from the map, that it's not, but it explains a lot.

Shows that, even though they're red on this map, most of the Motor Voter states are vote blue (democrats). Automatic registration means low information voters will just vote for whoever is giving them the most stuff (the Santa Clause theory). Have you seen Biden on TV STILL promising to "create good paying jobs" while systematically destroying the economy? Give me a break!

As an aside - Texas, which does not implement the NVRA, offers voter registration at the DMV. It's a separate form (the size of a postcard). So while the process is not automatic, it still occurs at the same time. Once registered to vote, you remain registered.
