Well, I have a sketch layer, lineart layer, a layer that is basically solid color underneath the lineart, a layer clipped to that which is the color layer, and then another layer clipped to the solid color one which is the shading layer! I use just one layer for color, because that's what one of my favorite artists do lol. I might post a picture of it if I have time.

Personally I only combine colored layers depending on category (hair, skin, eyes, etc). But I also create separate layers for a part which is supposed to be a certain color so that shading with clipping layers isn’t as much of a hassle. As seen with Sephiroth’s clothing in most of my drawings, I usually color certain parts on one layer and then the rest on other layers. I also make sure that the colored parts aren’t close to one another, and once I’m certain that the shading looks good, I combine the layers of that certain color. But hey, you do you

I don't do layers much but they are easier to draw with when needing to erase things that you want to,while keeping the other layer safe.and you can switch layers, and change the visibility.and to decide if you want to see it or not, cilck the eye.

You can separate the layers to make drawings easier to make like if you sketch on one layer and do lineart on the other so you dont have to erase the sketch trying to avoid erasing lineart and you can just delete everything on the sketch layer so no sketch will be shown. This is also good for making backrounds.
