If I don't take a vaccine and then get hit by a bus ...or killed in a car crash ...or fall off a ladder and break my neck ...or die of natural causes ....will I count as a "herd immunity" statistic, ye know, like with the covid stats.?

also, which definition are you using, the one the cdc used last year or the new one they came up with for this year?

no, but if you don't take a vaccine (because you think 2/3 of the population taking one is enough) and you die from covid, then you're a herd immunity statistic.

i didn't read either of their definitions. i'm using the common definition.

does it not concern you at all that the cdc changed the definition of a medical term that's been in use for over a hundred years?

I won't take it because I don't need it.

in my country less than 400 people under 60 have died OF covid**

all other stats for that age group include people who died FOR ANY REASON AT ALL (inc. car crashes!) ....within four weeks of a positive pcr test

**this is way down on normal annual flu' figures

it doesn't concern me because it doesn't affect the actual data. it's good that some countries are navigating the thing much better. if only the US had learned better from the early successes...

they changed the definition of what they're counting ...and that doesn't affect the data?

I think the US' biggest mistake was incentivizing diagnoses

it doesn't change the actual data. it changes their representation of the data, but they told you they were using a different definition, so what's the problem?

seriously??

yes seriously. scientists frequently adjust their models to make better interpretations and predictions. if they knew exactly what they were doing on day one and never had to adjust, it wouldn't be science.

adjusting models is not the same as "adjusting" the definition of standard medical terms

if that's really you, you should delete your account now and, if you feel you must, start fresh under another name.

Sweden's herd immunity experiment was a dismal failure.

which definition of "herd immunity" do you guys use? the one the cdc had last year, or the one they have this year?

where's the source on this?

it's a simple projection based on the estimate of a third of the US population resisting vaccination indefinitely and, until herd immunity is reached, they're all susceptible to infection (as are even the vaccinated people). the estimate may be low because we don't know well the profiles of the new strains yet or of course future strains

Sweden tried to do herd immunity without vaccinating, now they have a million cases in a population of ten million.

they must have known that with a virus this contagious, it would take a lot of infections to get there.
