I Would say they used their hands, and the meat was pork because (Fun fact) Romans ate pork. A LOT OF PORK. So I think that is the most reasonable answer.

I don't believe the Romans ate sandwiches at least to my knowledge. Someone probably ate them within the Roman Empire (what a weirdo) but I don't think it was widely eaten by the culture.

I always pictured them with a bone in their hand eating meat off it like the Flintstones
