If you were young and in an entry level job, but could now make up to two times what you were making collecting unemployment, but you say you'd go back to work...I've got magic beans you must own!

I have two grandchildren who were collecting unemployment and took such jobs in the last few months. They are looking at the long term, not for a quick buck. They are smarter than you give them credit for. The biggest weakness is the lack of affordable daycare facilities and other child supervision for women in the job market. Today's jobs report shows that. This economy will continue to grow and unemployment insurance will expire. But, Republicans will never run out of ways to blame workers for all that is wrong.

I applaud your grandchildren. But I fear they are in the minority for the time being. Once the extra money is coming to an end, then we will see more movement to fill entry level jobs.

This thesis ignores the gap between the Federal Unemployment Benefits programs early this year. That should have made millions of these lazy workers seek jobs, right? Blaming workers for the mixed economy as we come out of the Pandemic, is typical right-wing BS. Workers did not create this mess and they will continue to return to jobs that are safe as gaps in child care and other relevant issues are resolved.

Any gap in Fed benefits were subsidized by Stimulus. You are ignoring the fact that there are right now over 8,000,000 open jobs (Fed stats) and the unemployment rate rose to over 6%. Any issue that existed with child care etc are the same as before the pandemic when people employed was at an all time high. Fact: $350 unemployment + $300 Fed = $650/40hrs = $16.25/hr and NO taxes.
Hard to pass that up. That's my point and it is valid.

Child Care is in crisis since the Pandemic. Today's report notes that problem. Remember, this is a program passed by a Republican Senate and signed into law by Trump. It will end soon, on its own. The fuss is "eye candy," for the extreme right, and has nothing to do with the circumstances challenging potential workers and employers alike.

I have not had unemployment benefits since 1971. But, I checked. States still require beneficiaries to apply for and take jobs offered to continue to receive benefits. So, Montana and South Carolina are blaming workers because they are not doing their jobs of enforcing the rules.
