If you were being robbed in 1846, there were few
firearms available that lent themselves to personal
defense. If you were the kind of person who would
defend themself,
you used a knife
For most people
knives do precious
little to even the odds in a fight. Those who would
lose a fistfight likely would lose a knife fight
for the same reasons.
And then, along came Colonel Samuel Colt
and his invention of a practical revolver.
The weakest of victims,
properly trained, could
defend themselves
against far bigger, faster and meaner assailants. And with that a saw was born; variously phrased
and attributed, the essence of which was;
"God created men. Sam Colt made them equal."
Humans have a right to defend themselves and
to do so with weapons that even their odds.
