The problem with that is you have essentially declared that the state can censor anything it deems offensive. What's next, the Catholic Church? I don't want my religion, which holds views that MANY dispute, suppressed "for the good of the people". If you don't like what we, our radio hosts, our authors, etc have to say then please just don't listen to us.
I hate scrolling through comments on forums and seeing horribly racist or homophobic content, or listening to people like PJW complain about pathetic conspiracy theories, but they have a right to speak and be heard by any who want to listen. Democracy is founded on the ideal that everyone can speak their piece, then the people follow whomever they like the most. If the majority starts to suppress the minority then we've become a tyranny of the majority, and you have to think about this as well; if that minority ever becomes the majority, then you've essentially given them the green light to suppress you and everything for which you stand. If QAnon or Proud Boy ethos somehow became mainstream then they could suppress all books about racial equality, or liberal principles, etc. I'm sure you'd realize then how wrong it is to let the majority have the sole word in what we allow to be public.
It's just a really dangerous and un-democratic game to play. Much easier to say, "This book is f*****g stupid." and just not use it.
