John Boenher bowed to the pressure that the Tea Party placed on the Republican party in the Bush era. You don't think he wouldn't bow to the America First Caucus? It's easy to play statesman when you don't have to get reelected.

The amount of influence Boenher has on the Republican party is approaching 0. This statement of his is designed only to make him seem reasonable. The truth is, the Republican party under his leadership helped lay the groundwork for the bullshit we see today. This is his legacy that he's running from. If he's going to craft a kingdom of shit, he should have to wear its crown.

So, no... it isn't 'better late than never.'

True... but this isn't a mea culpa and he should have known better. There are those who have come out sooner and stronger against this extremist trend within the Republican party and have even quit the party due to this shift in policy - including those who still have a career in politics. I'm sorry, but I just can't bring myself to give Boenher the benefit of the doubt here.
