I can agree with you that it is wrong. But when someone is homophobic for being in a certain religion it is fine. In Richards case he showed a name of a chapter and a verse from the BIBLE

If a religion tells you to hate someone for being who they are, then either change your ways and respect others for who they are, or go find a new religion that accepts anyone.

Religion has rules. We can’t pick and choose what rules we follow or not

I think your religion (like almost all other religions) has rules against being a bad person and your religion shouldn’t choose what happens to other people.
