Cars were originally invented without seat belts. Seat belts came later. They were created for safety, to reduce automobile fatalities, and made mandatory to wear by law. Had seatbelts been made mandatory in 2020, we'd have a bunch of conservatives griping about being oppressed and having their freedom taken away. We'd have fake news being spread around about how seat belts are useless and don't REALLY increase your odds of surviving an accident. We'd have memes of people wearing seat belts with various captions about they're living in fear.
