In my opinion, America shouldn't be a "Christian country", because there are so many people that aren't Christian and religious beliefs shouldn't influence government.

So, some religions have a way of living that people who practice the religion follow, and I'm saying that government should not let the way they live (based on religion) or their opinion on certain things (e.g. homosexuality) influence government.

I'm not asking about a specific belief, I am asking about the general term. What do you mean by the term "religious belief"? What constitutes a "religious belief"? What distinguishes it from a non-religious belief?

What distinguishes it is whether or not is relates to a god/worship/belief in a higher power.
