Yes. Obviously there are many many well intentioned Black lives matter supporters, I know quite a few of them myself; and no, they did not loot and burn shit. Also, I might add, I'm well aware that most protesters last summer were peaceful. I'm not a partisan here, because for me, it's not my team against yours, and if you've seen my post around here, you'll see that. But Leftism, in all of its different flavors, is societal destruction on a grand scale, and the dialectic of BLM, not the people, is crap.

Using critical theory doesn't make you a Marxist any more than using Freudian-derived theories (Lacan, anyone?) makes you a psychoanalyst. It most likely means that you have read widely and synthesized several theoretical approaches.

Well that is true, but what of it? I have read a good few of the works of the Frankfurt School, plus some Western Marxism and critical theory, yet that definitely does not make me a Leftist/Marxist; but as they say, you know a tree by its fruit. The modern Left, rose from these Ideas (critical theory, the New Left, Western Marxism, which was a partial rejection of class Marxism) and although no ideas flow completely linearly, they do come from Marxism. These are facts. I might of read these works, but no one would confuse me for a Marxist, but someone telling me that Patrisse Cullors is not Marxist; good luck with that.

Still, embracing a theory isn't the same as embracing a political movement. I'm very fond of the Marxist theory of the alienation effect (It's also just fun to say Verfremdungs Effekt), which has applications in all sorts of study quite apart from smashing Capitalism. Scholarly theory in general is incredibly hybridized.
