That’s awful. Yes, I had similar experiences in middle and high school. You are exactly right. Many people bully others with hate speech and racist jokes just to be edgy and cool. Doesn’t make it any better. Words wound regardless of the intent — and certainly when the intent is to make someone else an outcast based on their skin color or religion.
