When I was in 12th grade, my science class was going on a field trip to go canoeing on a creek in my county. I was 18, and I assumed that I didn't need my parents to sign it, but this turned out not to be the case. I wasn't allowed to go, and I instead had to spend that class period with an insufferable administrator-type woman (don't remember what her position was exactly). I felt like a child being babysat.
To be clear, I have no issue with transgender kids who are clearly distressed about their gender identity being allowed to socially transition, but this is a very good point.
