Actually, anime doesn't do that. It can, in some cases. But often times what happens is the viewer watches a two-hundred episode show in day (which is a big no no) and then becomes obsessed (another big no no). This is often caused by people alienating them because they like anime, leaving them with nothing else to do or turn to. Here are some things you can do to help, along with some other things:
1. Kindly accept those people and talk to them. Learn who they are and why they are interested in anime.
2. Don't be quick to judge. Most of the time, anime fans are very shy and reserved people that are too afraid to go and talk to someone. You need to initiate the conversation.
3. Make sure you actually understand what anime is before saying something about it. (Though I do understand where you are coming from, and I understand why you might not like it. Everyone has every right to their own opinion, and you have every right to ignore it.)
4. If someone posts something that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to go and report it. But if it's only a meme, just ignore it :)
5. Those people that post inappropriate stuff do not entirely define the anime community. If they don't mark it as NSFW, I'm sure that even anime fans would report it.
6. If other people are allowed to post stuff about video games and movies and shows, why shouldn't we have that same privilege?
Please do not get triggered. I have no intention of making anyone upset. Again, thank you so much for your time π
