You'll recall "this side of paradise"-one of the few ST TOS episodes where Mr.Spock had a girlfriend (played by the lovely Jill Ireland.) It was because everyone on the planet was brainwashed by these "spores" that were like a "happy pill." They gave everyone a sort of carefree & loving attitude. Unfortunately,they also caused everyone to deny all personal responsibility. The old moral to the story still holds true: "there's no such thing as a free lunch"
