And that's why I like your ocs a lot.
Dust is powerful, but you don't abuse his abilities and you make him a fun character.
And Bloody is like a normal human, as he isn't powerful so it allows for interesting character interactions. (Like Cirrus being able to capture him as a ghost)
Adam and Red are like less powerful Dusts, and Cherry and Zackary are mostly powerless.
That's what makes your characters great for storyline, they're more focused on the lore and personality traits instead of just being powerful for no reason.

Yeah.
My main issue with op ocs is when one of them instantly kills off someone else's character in a fight and because most op ocs are bland due to the lack of any character development or backstory. As long as the characters don't abuse their power, I honestly think powerful ocs can be well-written and function well in a storyline, it just takes more effort. :)

Like you can have a balanced character it's not that hard.

Also, do you ever have those fights in rp with a person and they completely shrug of your attacks while instakilling you in 2 seconds? Nightmares.
3 ups, 3y,
1 reply
Oh yeah, I really dislike those-
I usually avoid rp fights because of that reason lol.
I don't even understand how people find it fun to instantly incinerate someone else's character.
Because I think that a balanced/not powerful character with flaws creates the best storyline tbh, but it seems others don't I guess.

Exactly, what is fun about a Mary Sue or a Gary Stu? They have all the personality of a cardboard box, and roleplaying with them isn't that fun too.
3 ups, 3y,

Coincidentally, one person on here's extremely overpowered oc literally is a cardboard box lol.

Anyway yeah, I really find "ideal" or "perfect" characters to be really annoying and just straight-up bland. Flaws and weaknesses allow for interesting character interactions and character development, detailed and non-cliche backstories allows one to connect better to a character and makes the oc more fleshed out, and varying personalities among characters allows for much more fun roleplay and makes them stand out more.
2 ups, 3y,

I've roleplayed with that guy so I can 100% agree with you there-

I also agree with the ideal character thing. I think the more flaws a character has, the more likable they are because we can relate to them better than the magical fairy princess that's 1000% flawless.
3 ups, 3y,

Exactly. Relatability is important for making a likable character that appears more believable. Even if the character is supposed to be a villain/disagreeable person, providing them interesting traits allows for them to not be found as an annoyance, but as an important figure with a harsh personality. And I don't think anyone other than the creators find anything likable about a character who is basically a god and has zero personality, who also kills everyone by just looking at them. It's no fun imo.

I wish more villains were more like the harsh personality but real flaws type, seeing the perfect god and the totally 100% evil. I think villains can make some of the best characters, that's what making them is a daunting task. (I'm working on two, but need to get their personality down.)
3 ups, 3y,
1 reply
Yeah, villains are super important to storyline and they can be amazing characters, but they're very difficult to make well. They must have justified reason for their actions (not just a "some dude hurt my feelings" situation) and need to have both likable yet dislikable personalities at the same time to function best. Their interactions with the protagonist/their opponent must be reasonable as well. (I'm also currently working on one, but they still need a lot of work and planning)
2 ups, 3y
I feel that the best villains are the ones that actually try to do good things, they could just have a different view of the world from their past experiances.

I agree. I don't think that villains who just "are evil" are of any substance. There has to be something to them that makes their actions seemingly negative to their enemy, but they don't believe what they do is wrong/they have different views, as you said.
2 ups, 3y
EXACTLY.
