Make a barrier tower, put some lava on it, wait for it to cover the whole barrier tower, then add some more barrier blocks, and then put some water on it and wait for it to touch the lava from all the way to the bottom, put in more barrier blocks and add lava, and finally, wait for the lava to fill in the whole thing, then repeat.
