I highly doubt that a 16 year old hasn't already been indoctrinated into the political ideology of their parents.

I would hope that a 16 year old given this choice would choose conservatism - but the truth is probably closer to a saying I heard a long time ago.

"If you aren't liberal in your youth, you have no heart. If you don't become conservative as you age, you have no brain."

No, I suggested that most kids will follow the path their parents are on - and that kids who don't have a path to follow end up being liberal first and conservative later.

You're already on a good path. Having a heart is overrated anyway, many people use it as a weakness to be exploited.

People exploit the bleeding hearts by throwing heart wrenching scenarios at them while asking for money, or property, or time. Their goal isn't to stop the heart wrenching scenario, their goal is to separate you from your money, or property, or time. They don't want the heart wrenching scenario to go away because that's how they find their victims.

Most charities only give a small percentage of the money they collect to the thing they advertise. Being non-profits, they have to publish this information - and most spend less than 10% on the subject of their charity. It's all a scam....well, most are a scam.

Don't commit to any political party. Patriotism > Partisanship

Based on your posts in the past, it doesn't exactly seem like you're on the fence here.

Fair enough, I respect that.

To give the "elevator pitch" for conservativism, I guess it all boils down to two points.
- How much do you want to be told what to do, and
- Where do you want most of that authority to reside.

For me, I want the first point to be "as little as necessary," and the second to be "as local as possible."

I don't want anarchy. I get that government is necessary at multiple levels. I like a limited federal government that handles national matters (which are quite few in number honestly), a local government that handles all the local day to day stuff, and a state government that serves as oversight (when the local goes crooked) and a liason between local and federal.

That is the ideal because goxernmental power invariably corrupts individuals, no matter how good or noble their intent. This is a problem on both sides of the aisle. Keeping the majority of authority local means that we as a community can throw the bums out when necessary with little need for a state or national ruckus.

That's conservativism and limited government in a nutshell.
