You hear what they want you to hear. Nothing else. I hear lies from all sides.

well no but you have to understand that those industries are geared mainly toward not pissing people off

Who are they not pissing off? I know that a lot of conservatives have actually gotten rid of their TV's and they no longer go to movies. Some have kept their TV's but only for their kids and they monitor their kids shows because your side didn't waste anytime trying to indoctrinate our children.

I haven't done any of the above but sometimes I have to change the channel to stop the urge to throw something at the TV.

My jaw almost hit the floor the other day when my wife was watching FBI on CBS. They did a story that was clearly based off of that bombing that happened awhile ago in Nashville. The one where the guy blew up a car with a remote detonator. In the show, for probably the first time that I can remember, the bomber was a radical leftist. TV ALWAYS portrays terrorists as conservatives in direct opposition to real life. All of the domestic terrorist attacks have always been radical leftists, never conservatives. Most of the mass shooters are left leaning. The rest are either Muslims or psychopaths who are not politically minded. There has never been a mass shooting that I can remember that was done by a conservative. But you won't find that in movies or TV, with that one episode of FBI being the exception.

Disney fired Gina Carano from the Mandalorian just because she is conservative. ABC dumped their second highest rated sitcom several years ago because Tim Allen dared to make pro conservative jokes. Fox picked the show up but one of the girls who played his daughter on the show quit because she could not bring herself to work with a conservative.

What you mean is they are geared towards not pissing off leftists.

i sympathize with some parts of your position, but first of all i'm not a leftist. i'm a moderate who's been horrified by the recent transformations of the GOP. i gave up TV too, about three years ago and i don't miss it. there is a strong liberal bias in most of the major networks and i'm sure that's motivated by profit. that's not why i gave it up. i just didn't see much value in it.

the starting point for any reconciliation, or at least depolarization, of left and right has to come by understanding why both sides are getting more extreme in their views. unfortunately, what gets advertised by all media is the views and actions, not the basis of the increasing extremism.

There really isn't any value to TV today. I really don't know why have TV and even pay for basic Dish Network plus the Starz movie channels and then Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount TV (formerly CBS All Access). We just canceled Disney Plus. We've seen all they offered and they haven't added much plus we don't have any children.

what's the solution? polarized countries don't tend to do very well in the long run, and it's surprising really that the US has lasted as long as it has.

I don't know what the solution is, but their attempts to not piss people off only seem to piss people off.

So given your knowledge of polarized countries.
Could your suprise that the U.S has lasted as long as it has be based upon media manipulation as to the real state of affairs in the country?
Are the divisions being created by the media when they don't really have the power they are affording these dividing causes?

lol no it couldn't. i've been one of the least trusting people i know since childhood when our family doctor almost got me killed by an extreme misdiagnosis. i'd never believe something i saw from any 'expert' or in the media just because they said so. i train science students every year to understand that you can't believe anything you read or hear (second-hand). so no, my surprise actually stems from the fact that this country was polarized from the beginning. it's just gotten worse at various times. it's interesting to think on exactly what drives it. and i'm not saying that the media don't contribute to it, but i'm most interested in how to solve it. a little polarization is fine since it leads to argument and debate. a lot leads to cultures of hate and their sad consequences.
