I am by no means pro-prostitution, but I don't think that w**remongering is abuse. If you swing a guy violently into a building, then it's abuse, unless you're paying him as a stuntman.

Most of the time, prostitutes aren't being paid, or they're pitifully underpaid while being forced to remain. Human trafficking is what gets most girls into prostitution in the first place.

If they're not getting paid or they're being forced to do it, then it isn't prostitution. It's slavery.

Well, human trafficking (which is closely associated with prostitution and the porn industry) IS in and of itself slavery.

Well yes, obviously.

As a libertarian, I'm all for legalizing it. I use the same arguments used when legalizing pot in Colorado.

-It's going to happen anyways, prohibition rarely works for anything.
-If it's legal we can tax it.
-If it's legal, we take out the criminal elements (in the case of drugs, the dealers and smugglers, in the case of prostitution, the pimps)
-If it's legal, the prostitutes will have to get regular medical check-ups

The thing is, in places where it is legal (e.g., Germany), it doesn't get any better. You can read the article I linked for more information.

LOL, that's probably true. Plus the fact that as a quasi government employee I probably still wouldn't be able to avail myself of the service, same as smoking pot. I still have to take random urinalysis and they test for THC.

And, another thing. Even if it were to be legalized, there will always be criminals who will try to circumvent the rules. While I myself am a semi-libertarian, I do believe that once you start legalizing previously illegal (and unhealthy) activities, people will keep on pushing the boundaries, until there are almost no rules to speak of. At some point, legislation for the protection of public health needs to be passed to hold that tendency in check. At that point, it would be better to just clamp down on human trafficking, and keep prostitution illegal.

Legalization of prostitution never works. Much like drugs or alcohol, outlawing prostitution doesn't do a lot to stop it. People are gonna do it anyway.
But legalization actually makes it worse. In the Netherlands, where almost everything is legal, instead of reducing the danger to women (and men) inherent to prostitution, it just became a mecca for international sex trafficking.
