This is more about the government attempting to make a 'registry' of gun ownership versus background checks. Also, yes - background checks already exist and take anywhere between 30 mins and several days to complete depending on the number of pending applications. Also depends if you work for an agency or already have your CWP which can sometimes expedite the process.

The government will not be getting a registry of my weapons - period.

And who cares if the government has a registry?
Oh yea the ones scared by the NRA's cool aid.

Uh.. who cares? The government cares if they have a registry - no one else really does. You do know what the Second Amendment is securing right? The only thing that protects our constitution is the ability to own and secure firearms. Once the government knows who has them - its easy to take them away and suppress their ability to be used by the direction of the Amendment which states:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Two things here.. one "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" which the democrats are doing. Two, "NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE" - in other words, to combat a tyrannical government which we are slowly creeping towards.

I can't believe you are too blind to see it. So scary. Think about it, why is the left so afraid of the constitution? Well, it's because it directly combats socialism and totalitarianism - which is what the left truly seeks.

Strange that they’re directly opposing it at every turn. The symbolism behind the constitution must be “RaCiSt”. All socialist are driven by power - perhaps read up on some history of socialism and its leaders. If power is not what they seek - why push socialism?

Your first mistake was admitting that you have weapons. I have no weapons. None at all. Guns are bad. I hate guns.

It's not a mistake - its my God-given right to own and keep firearms to protect myself and my family. As for you not owning a firearm - congratulations. That is also your God-given right to not own one.

So why impose on we the people, our rights to bear arms? To track and identify those who legally possess them?

I was being super sarcastic. Now go back and re-read it. I own 47 firearms and reload my own ammo. I would never admit to any state or federal agency the amount I have. I buy 80% unregistered lowers and build my own.

Hard to read through plaintext sarcasm when the left actually uses those same points as a base argument - so my apologies.

If you don’t think a liberal is dumb enough to make that argument - shows that you have a liberal mindset.

When they are not on a national registry? I guess they could track one down if it was committed in a crime. Otherwise, no. And why should they be seeking them out? Tyranny always seems most afraid of their population owning weapons.

Let’s see... I spent 22 years on active duty in the military as an Army infantryman. I build my own firearms. Reload my own ammo. Have stockpiled grain and primers for 3 decades. I have back up dies for my back up dies for my back up dies. Forge my own hardware, mill my own uppers and have more 80% lowers than every person on this site. I have saved and collected brass for probably longer than you have been alive, so...I’ll bite and debate you on this. How can the government find them?

You think it’s “cute” that I say that the government won’t or “can’t” find my stuff. So, put your money where your mouth is. Give me your vast knowledge on the subject and enlighten me.

You have to have your background checked in order to buy a gun. An it takes quite some time to complete the background check.

That is not "quite some time." Unless you're somebody with marks on your record. Then you're looking at weeks-to-never.

If you’ve been convicted of a felony, you are unable to purchase any sort of firearm

Not when my family has tried to buy one

Well, that may be. But most AMerican citizens will pass the background check in about 5-30 minutes, depending on what time of day the checks is run and how many people on any given day are trying to buy.
Are you citizens or green card holders?
