I will provide some backstory behind this: Back in 7th grade, I played some of the Mario games and noticed that Toadette could swim, so I decided to make fanart of the idea. It took me about 5 hours to complete, and once it was done, I texted this picture to a friend who I will call 3. Now 3 gave me a pencil kit for my birthday, and so I used it to draw the picture. Both me and 3 went to a yearround school in which we were in track 2, and thus we were part of a team called the 7-2 Stingrays. I asked 3 to find the stingray in the picture, and she complimented the picture as well as using Toadette as a reference point to find the stingray. Because of 3’s response, I was motivated to show it to my other classmates at school. I took a picture of it on my phone and took my phone to school. I mostly got either positive or neutral comments on my picture. On the coming weekend, I showed it to my childhood friend whom I’ll be calling 7. While we were getting ready to leave an extracurricular session, I showed only the stingray to 7. I felt somewhat guilty not showing the full picture to her, so I texted her the actual picture once I got home. Like what I asked 3, I asked 7 to try finding the stingray that time around. 7 finally responded 4 days after I sent the image, but it was a response I never expected. Instead of finding the stingray like I tasked her to do, she asked me what Toadette was doing in the ocean. I couldn’t help but continue thinking about it for the rest of the day. The next day, 7 proceeded to tell my classmates about my drawing, and how it never made sense that Toadette could swim in the ocean. My classmates seemed to agree with her, despite most of them having played Mario games before. No matter how much I tried to justify with my classmates that Toadette could canonically swim, they never seemed to believe me. Eventually, I gave up and moved on. To this day, just thinking about it makes me laugh
Sorry if this comment is too long, but I just wanted to provide the story behind it. So anyways, I’ll be signing off!
