I sort of feel lied to by movies like Saving Private Ryan and also my high-school history class. They didn't lie, though, they just selectively reported the facts. I guess how cultural indoctrination & patriotism often works. Occasionally its bald faced lies like "the Nazis were atheists / pantheists / communists / unique in pursuing ethnic cleansing" - but mostly its just conveniently forgetting to mention that the Holy Roman Empire and Church of England had made it *the law* to burning heretics alive at the stake in the year 401AD. Heretics included the followers of Martin Luther of Protestant fame, but the favorite group to pick on was really the blood relatives of Jesus Christ. Also known as the Jews. Hitler just modernized that awful practice, and had the support of MANY Americans, who were upset we got roped into fighting other Christians rather than the Godless Communists by way of Pearl Harbor. That is why the US military refused to destroy a bunch of concentration camps despite a presidential order to do so. On a side-note: Jesus actually went by the name of Yeshua, and Christus was a title given to him posthumously that means Lord... not that it matters much.
