Yeah, well, the name literally means "rotten cheese" in Italian. And the idea of eating living larva doesn't appeal me. On the other hand, and that's no cheese, but fish, but you really don't wanna eat that. Surströmming. It's a Swedish fish dish, infamous for its stench.
In Germany somebody was kicked out of his apartment by the landlord, due to opening a can of surströmming in the central stairway and the stench it brought in that stairway was unbearable for all inhabitants of that flat. Now the kicked-out guy did try to sue the landlord for that, however when the landlord opened a can of surströmming in court as evidence he instantly won the case. Surströmming may perhaps not sound as unhygienic as cheese with larvae in it, as a matter of fact, the substances producing the stench appear to be the reason the fish is not rotten at all (it was invented in order to conserve the fish), and although the taste is (according to those who love that stuff) actually not nearly as bad as its smell, the smell keeps most people from eating that.
