Having descendants from Africa is what makes you African-American, and she does. She also has South Asian blood. She can be both those things you know. They are in no way mutually exclusive. And many other African-Americans have mixed heritage. You lived through the Obama years and still don’t know this?
As such, it is an accurate statement to say she is the country’s first African-American (or black) VP.
