Their history has been turned into a very romantic story, and the truth is that it's save to assume the two were in love with each other, however, there the romance ends. Clyde in particular was a very very dangerous man. The true story is actually very very tragic and sad, and trust me when I say that you didn't wanna be there when they were plundering a business, since only a few survived. Now I know more about them, as these two fascinate me as well, and I know you must be careful to condemn them, but trust me when I say that some people are hated and feared for less than what Bonnie and Clyde had on their record.
It's just that the U.S. was in a big crisis at the time, and the big businesses were hated for that, and they were their prime target. Also due to them fleeing from state to state making it unclear which state had to act and if they could act, driving the cops to madness made them iconic and made people love them for stuff that is actually downright horrible. The movies made about them don't do the real story justice. I think that when a movie is made showing things the way they really happened, that many people may be very very disappointed and have another disillusion.
Now Bonnie and Clyde contributed to the romantic myths about them in a great way, but as you know from social media, you always act like a very wonderful person where everyone can see you while you may in real life be miserable and pathetic. Of course back then we had no social media, but the way Bonnie and Clyde acted when they knew they could hit the press is not much different from that perspective. There are things that never change after all.
