i would recommend i slightly thinner body structure, with short fur, so as not to accidentally catch fire, muscles can be augmented so as to be stronger with less bulkiness.

i've reviewed their anatomy and it looks like their skeletal structure is about as weak as that of a human's. is there any way to plate armor onto the prototype to the point of complete resistance to standard AP rounds without reducing mobility?

yes, the bones can always be reinforced, so that they are stronger, augmentation of the structure is encouraged if to be used in battle.
