Supreme Court ruled in the 1940's that the Pledge of Allegiance DOES interfere with free religious exercise. (If I recall, Seventh Day Adventists were the plaintiffs in that case.) And it is or at least it's supposed to be a completely optional pledge for that reason.
For some reason, I get called unpatriotic for saying THAT, so go figure.
