California | CALIFORNIA HAS 15 OIL REFINERIES I THINK BLUE STATES WILL BE OK | image tagged in california | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

According to data from the California state government, gasoline sold in California increased from 942,000 barrels per day (BPD) in 2012 to over 1,012,000 BPD in 2018, an average annual increase of 1.2%, The increase in diesel sold was even greater - averaging a 2.9% average annual increase over the same period.

Most barrels used in California but not produced in California come from overseas due to lack of interstate crude oil transport. That, along with California's declining oil production, means California's dependence on foreign oil imports has steadily grown in recent years. In fact, California's foreign oil imports have tripled in the past 20 years. This is in stark contrast to most U.S. states, which have seen crude oil imports plunge in recent years.>>> https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2019/06/21/californias-oil-hypocrisy-presents-a-national-security-risk

California's Oil Hypocrisy Presents A National Security Risk. California is well-known for its progressive policies. The state has waged an aggressive campaign to move away from fossil fuels. One of the consequences of this campaign has been a steady decline in California's oil production.

As I pointed out in a recent article, 100 years ago California was the top oil producer in the U.S., responsible at one point for nearly 40% of U.S. oil production. But California's oil production has been in decline for many years, with the state totally missing out on the shale oil boom that has boosted oil production across the U.S. >>> https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2019/06/21/californias-oil-hypocrisy-presents-a-national-security-risk

Despite receiving a privileged designation from the state during the coronavirus pandemic, Kern County oil producers (Oildale) are hunkering down as dismal market conditions make it unlikely that investment and hiring in local oil fields will return anytime soon. >>> https://www.bakersfield.com/news/oil-producers-brace-for-sustained-slowdown-as-outlook-dims/article_cc1a9994-6e0e-11ea-9933-ef61bee7a803.html

The problem for liberals is, there are no Blue States. There are only Blue Cities. And, California has banned most of their oil and gas exploration. Where are you going to get that to put into the refineries.

Most of it already gets exported anyway. Very little of that oil stays in the United States. Why do you think the refineries are on the coast of Texas?

You do understand why that's a really bad idea, the moment that oil is abandoned. Russia will take over the oil industry and good luck green new whatever...

Uh, don't tell me that - tell that to TransCanada. That's the entire point of the Keystone XL pipeline. They want to pump Canadian tar oil directly to refineries on the Gulf Coast so that they can export it. That's the ENTIRE reason for that pipeline. The entire debate is how passionately you think we should be the middle men between Canada and Brazil.

The Keystone XL pipeline is a 1,200 mile pipeline that will safely deliver crude oil from Canada and North Dakota to the United States—from Alberta to Nebraska. First proposed in 2008, the $8 billion pipeline would deliver over 800,000 barrels of oil a day. Its construction supports over 13,000 Canadian and American workers in the building trades. https://www.globalenergyinstitute.org/background-keystone-xl

The oil isn't staying in Nebraska. Look at your map again. There's no oil consumption market in Nebraska - what the hell is wrong with you?

ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW YOU ONLY BRING UP THE JOBS WHEN YOU LOSE THE ARGUMENT YOU WERE MAKING?

No, it's because you want to jump from argument to argument without having to face down the fact that you're wrong about ALL of this.

Oil independence? That oil is already being produced in Canada and being exported to Brazil. We're just middle men.

Oil production? That oil is already being produced. Production wouldn't grow by one single barrel. It's all about the face that some Canadians want to save some money on how the oil is transported to Texas.

Jobs? After the construction workers have built the damn thing and been sent home, only 35 Americans will still have jobs they didn't have before.

And you know what? I can hear you drumming up another angle to argue about from here. Because you think this is how people argue - that as long as you jump from topic to topic, you'll never actually have to critically evaluate the position you took in the first place. BUT IT'S NOT. It's immature. You need to grow up. The Keystone Pipeline is garbage and always has been, which is why it couldn't be built in the last four years and why we're done with it now. It's over. Done.

In a statement, Governor Pete Ricketts said the failure to make the pipeline would make the U.S. more reliant on overseas energy sources.

“Keystone XL is a critical part of putting together an all-of-the-above strategy for North American energy independence,” said Gov. Ricketts. “Failure to construct the pipeline would mean more dependence on overseas energy sources as well as fewer jobs and less property tax relief for Nebraskans. This is a project that would greatly benefit not just Nebraska but also our whole country, and it is our hope that TC Energy presses forward.” >>> https://www.ksnblocal4.com/2021/01/21/governor-environmental-group-reacts-to-halt-of-keystone-xl-pipeline/

Before Beijing Biden came in with his pen, the U.S. was no longer dependent upon foreign oil! The U.S. was making money selling oil. What's wrong with you people?

Your arguement isn't supporting the stupid meme. The meme talks about red and blue states, not jobs. It is Canadian oil, and you are posting links about the US importing crude. That is exactly what keystone facilitates, the importing of foreign crude.
0 ups, 4y
Talk about stupid! California is importing oil. Under Trump the U.S. became SELF SUFFICIENT for the first time fuel wise. Biden, a typical liberal, wants the U.S. to become dependent (again) on foreign fuel. Technically, the Keystone Pipeline isn't needed for U.S. fuel, but for jobs.
Keystone does NOT "facilitate importing foreign crude." It's EXPORTING!!

Canada is the world’s fourth-biggest crude producer, but has been grappling for years with congestion on pipelines. That caused a glut of oil in storage tanks in Alberta, driving prices down, and spurring the province to impose production curtailments to drain record inventories.

Those curtailments were lifted in November, and production has been rising ever since. Even as production is rising again, pipeline companies have boosted efficiency on existing pipelines through the use of drag-reducing agents.

“While the politics around KXL will continue to reverberate for some time, the reality is that western Canada - for the first time in recent memory - may soon reach a juncture at which it has excess oil EXPORT capacity,” Rystad Energy’s vice president for North American shale Thomas Liles said in a note. >>> https://www.reuters.com/article/usa-biden-keystone-oil/even-without-keystone-xl-u-s-set-for-record-canadian-oil-imports-idINL4N2JW3T5
