This bit really bothers me. They have light sabers and FTL travel, but they don't have modern birth care? They just should have stuck with the original canon and let her survive a few years.

Yeah i agree. Especially since Leia remembered her. I pinned down that she was Leia’s mother after seeing the first prequel, based on Leia’s description, so I was super confused when she died, since that created a major plot hole. Also it was kinda dumb to have that strong character lose the will to live over that too.

she actually didn´t die in child birth. after anakin tried to kill her she lost the will to live. she was overwhelmed that her true love had gone and killed some many and then tried to kill her. so, in truth, even if she didn´t have luke and leia she would have still died.

yes, but at that EXACT moment? That always rang untrue for me.

And think of the dramatic possibilities of her living in hiding, having chosen to give up one of her children to keep them both safer, knowing that her One True Love was there, but lost to the dark side, always hoping in a way to see him again, but dreading it too, guilty and conflicted over her choices, unable to work in public to save what was left of the Republic -- that's a good story, and more true to the character than the wimpy "alas. . . I die" we were left with.

yeah, i´ll agree. padme could´ve definetley lived longer. how does this sound: ¨queen at 14 from public service to her planet, then she was a senator and always tried to fight for peace, a strong leader through times of despair, and she marrys whiny little anakin.¨
